报告人简介:Dr. George Xian (先泽进) is a research physics scientist at the U.S. National Center for Earth Resources Observation and Science and have engaged in research on Earth observation and research using satellite remote sensing. He specializes in using remote sensing data to study national land cover and land use change, as well as their impact on climate and environment. He has served as scientific lead and management on projects including the National Land Cover, Land Change Monitoring and Assessment, Western Land Mapping, National Urban Impervious Surface Mapping, and National Urban Heat Island Mapping. He also served as the lead researcher for the center's land cover product focus area
Dr. Xian also led the 5th and 6th the U.S. National Climate Assessments to report on national land cover and land use change, human welfare, climate change, catastrophic weather, and social and environmental factors of variability.
To date, Dr. Xian has published over one hundred peer- reviewed journal articles, one monograph, and several bibliographic chapters. He also has served as editor- in- chief of Remote Sensing Applications: Society and Environment, served on the editorial boards of three other related journals, and organized special publications for four journals. He earned PhD and MS from University of Nevada and Colorado State University in the U.S., and BS degree from Yunnan University in China.
报告摘要:As land surface changes due to anthropic developments and other nature disturbances, many critical aspects of the land system are impacted. Increasing concerns about how climate and global environmental change impact land systems and ecosystem sustainability have driven extensive research efforts to understand these complex interactions. The long time Earth observations from satellite provide vital data to characterize and analyze the land cover and land use change in different geographic scales. The remote sensing information can improve the understanding of the temporal and geographic dimensions of land change, the connections between climate and land change and their combined impacts on human and natural systems. With the advances in AI, big data collection, and model integration, a breakthrough on the investigation of Earth system and change is expected.
